Pickleball Court At Calvert Park Now Open

Residents in the Vodden St. E and Williams Parkway area along the Etobicoke creek trail now have access to a new pickleball court at Calvert Park. By converting this neglected space into a pickleball court, with lighting coming soon, the city is creating a safer and more vibrant environment that promotes sports, recreation, and community engagement.

Encampment Update – July 12, 2024

Brampton led relocation efforts of encampments in flood-prone parks along the Etobicoke Creek Trail, with ongoing support for remaining active encampments and 24/7 patrols. The city prunes trees for better sight lines and is planting new trees on Calvertdale Road. City and regional councils are advocating for increased affordable housing and social supports, and an Encampment Policy Framework is being developed.

Encampment Policy Update: Addressing the Chronic Underfunding in Peel

During the Regional Council meeting May 23, the focus was on the critical issues of homelessness and mental health services within our community. Peel is chronically underfunded in these essential areas, and today’s discussions reinforced the urgent need for increased provincial support.

Update on Encampments- April 26, 2024

Councillor Santos continues to vigorously advocate for action from the Region of Peel to relocate those in the encampments into safer housing such as hotels, and to restore balance in the area for local residents and businesses so that everyone can safely enjoy the green spaces. We continue to see tents be set up in the Calvert Park and Duggan Park areas along the Etobicoke Creek area. Councillor Santos is urging for expedited action by both city and regional staff. Calvert and Duggan Parks Community Update – Mar 28 2024

An ongoing safety issue regarding homeless encampments is the known flood risk along the Etobicoke Creek. At the request on Councillor Santos, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) provided a flood hazard information update. The TRCA is responsible for creating and maintaining Flood Plain Mapping, and for providing Flood Forecasting and Warning services.
