Standing Up for Road Safety: Motion to Oppose Province-Wide Ban on Speed Cameras

This morning, I introduced a motion at Brampton’s Committee of Council in response to Premier Doug Ford’s decision to cancel the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program across Ontario. The Premier’s decision, not shared by many municipalities, will jeopardize public safety, undo years of progress, and waste millions already invested in Brampton. The motion was seconded […]

Getting the facts straight; busting common myths about Brampton’s Automated Speed Enforcement program

Brampton’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program is effectively reducing speeding and saving lives, with strong public support—86% of residents back its use in Community Safety Zones. Backed by local and international data, ASE has led to speed reductions of up to 18 km/h and fewer serious collisions. Myths about cost, fairness, and privacy are debunked, with city officials emphasizing that ASE is about safety, not revenue.

Peel Regional Police have kicked off the 2025 edition of Project E.R.A.S.E., a joint crackdown on illegal street racing and stunt driving across the GTA. In 2024, over 2,100 charges were laid and 1,119 vehicles investigated. Partnering with local police forces and led in part by Brampton Councillor Rowena Santos, the initiative supports Vision Zero and aims to make streets safer for everyone.

City of Brampton invests in cutting-edge technology to enhance public safety

Brampton is enhancing public safety by installing 360-degree cameras and licence plate recognition technology at 50 intersections to aid crime investigations. These cameras will not issue tickets but will provide real-time data to Peel Regional Police, improving response to traffic incidents and safety concerns. As the first Canadian municipality to implement this technology, Brampton prioritizes community safety with cutting-edge investments.
