ASE Update – April 2026

Road safety remains a priority for Brampton, particularly as the City navigates a transition away from the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program. To ensure the continued safety of all road users, Council has directed staff to implement a comprehensive workplan that includes innovative, infrastructure-based traffic-calming solutions and modernized school zone safety measures. We are pleased […]
If You Don’t Report It, Police Can’t Resource It — Safety Town Hall Insights

Only 1 in 5 residents who experienced petty crime actually reported it to police. That means the footage on your Ring camera, the car door checks at 3 a.m., the package stolen off your porch — if it’s not reported, police don’t know it’s happening, and they can’t direct resources to your neighbourhood. That was one of the biggest takeaways from the Community Safety Town Hall, and it’s exactly what Councillor Santos is bringing to the Peel Police Services Board this Friday.
Modernizing School Zone Safety: Council Supports New Infrastructure-Based Safety Measures

At our March 11 Council meeting, I brought forward motion seconded by Councillor Martin Medeiros to begin implementing alternative safety measures in our school and community safety zones which was passed unanimously at Council. With the recent cancellation of Automated Speed Enforcement by the Province, many municipalities, including the City of Brampton, were suddenly left without […]
Listening to Residents: Regional Council Approves Motion to expedite Safety Improvements at Queen St and Royal West Dr

Today, a motion was brought forward and officially carried to address the urgent safety concerns at the intersection of Queen Street West and Royal West Drive. For some time, residents have voiced their difficulties safely accessing and exiting Royal West Drive. While permanent signals are currently complicated by deep-servicing infrastructure related to a nearby subdivision […]
Extortion Is a National Crisis Playing Out on Local Streets

Contributor: Mayor Patrick Brown Every mayor in Canada learns this lesson quickly: the problems that land on your desk are rarely abstract. They arrive as phone calls from small business owners or families whose sense of safety has been shaken. In Peel Region, extortion has become one of those problems. It’s no longer isolated or […]
Impacts of Cancelled Speed Enforcement Cameras for our Community

With the Province’s decision to end municipal ASE programs, all 185 cameras across Brampton were shut down on November 14. This wasn’t a City decision, yet the impacts are very real for our neighbourhoods.
Councillor Santos Makes Final Appeal to Premier Ford: Work With Us, Not Against Us on Speed Camera Compromise

Councillor Rowena Santos is urging Premier Doug Ford to collaborate with municipalities on a balanced approach to Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) instead of eliminating it. She calls for keeping speed cameras in school zones, targeting excessive speeding, and ensuring fair fines. Santos emphasizes that ASE remains one of the most effective tools for protecting residents and reducing dangerous driving.
Highest Speeding Vehicles (ASE Camera) – Top 10

Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras are helping to keep Brampton’s roads safer by encouraging drivers to slow down gradually, especially near schools and in Community Safety Zones. In one case, an ASE camera recorded a vehicle going 200 km/h on McVean Drive, underscoring just how dangerous extreme speeding can be. These cameras are a proven, effective alternative to physical speed bumps on wider, busy roads where safety and traffic flow both matter.
Councillor Santos Urges Premier Ford to Show Leadership Not Dictate One-Sided Terms on Speed Camera Ban

I have read the letter Premier Ford wrote to Mayor Brown, Mayor Meed Ward, and other municipalities doubling down on his decision to unilaterally ban Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) in Ontario. While I understand the Premier’s concerns about fairness and transparency, this decision is deeply disappointing. Public safety should never become a casualty of politics. […]
Keeping Our Kids Safe: Why Brampton Needs Speed Cameras

Councillor Rowena Santos defends Brampton’s speed cameras, stressing they save lives, calm traffic, and protect kids in school zones. Residents support them, and she urges the province to keep this proven safety tool in place.
