Councillor Santos Makes Final Appeal to Premier Ford: Work With Us, Not Against Us on Speed Camera Compromise

Councillor Rowena Santos is urging Premier Doug Ford to collaborate with municipalities on a balanced approach to Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) instead of eliminating it. She calls for keeping speed cameras in school zones, targeting excessive speeding, and ensuring fair fines. Santos emphasizes that ASE remains one of the most effective tools for protecting residents and reducing dangerous driving.

Highest Speeding Vehicles (ASE Camera) – Top 10

Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras are helping to keep Brampton’s roads safer by encouraging drivers to slow down gradually, especially near schools and in Community Safety Zones. In one case, an ASE camera recorded a vehicle going 200 km/h on McVean Drive, underscoring just how dangerous extreme speeding can be. These cameras are a proven, effective alternative to physical speed bumps on wider, busy roads where safety and traffic flow both matter.

Backed by local and international data, ASE has led to speed reductions of up to 18 km/h and fewer serious collisions. Myths about cost, fairness, and privacy are debunked, with city officials emphasizing that ASE is about safety, not revenue.
