Reducing vehicular speed and cut-through traffic, particularly in local residential areas, remains a priority. The City continues to implement speed cushions, automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras, road diets, increased signage, and strategically lowered neighbourhood speed limits to encourage safer driving behavior.
Ward 1 & 5 Traffic Calming Highlights:
The following measures were selected based on traffic assessments, resident feedback, and accident data:
- Ward 1: 52 new speed cushions across 10 roads are being introduced, targeting key areas with high-speed travel (Set to be completed Spring / Summer 2026).
- Ward 5: 50 new speed cushions across 12 roads are being introduced, targeting key areas with high-speed travel (Set to be completed Spring / Summer / Fall 2026).
- 40 km/h Speed Zones: Residential neighbourhoods in both wards continue to feature 40 km/h zones, marked clearly with signage to alert drivers and enhance street safety.
- In Road LED Lighting Gateway: A pilot program is being considered at Fletchers Creek Blvd aimed at measuring the effect of in ground lighting and clear markings for a school zone areas.
