City of Brampton expands Free Annual Recreation Membership to residents aged 65 and older

Lowering the age threshold from 70 to 65 ensures more residents can stay healthy and active.

Building on the successful launch of the free 70+ Annual Recreation Membership introduced last year in celebration of Brampton’s 50th birthday, the City of Brampton is expanding the program to include residents aged 65 and older.

“We heard loud and clear from the community that recreation should be accessible, especially for the physical and mental health of our seniors. Expanding this membership to include residents aged 65 and older is a pro-active health care measure that ensures more seniors in our community have the chance to stay healthy, engaged, and active.” – Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5; Chair, Community Services, City of Brampton

Beginning today, eligible residents can enroll in the newly expanded membership. Starting June 1, 2025, those enrolled will be able to access the City’s wide range of recreational programs and services at no cost through the new free 65+ Annual Recreation Membership. Programs and services include:

  • Fitness Centre Membership
  • Racquet Membership (Squash and Racquetball only)
  • Swimming and Skating Membership
  • Walking Track Membership
  • Most general interest programs
  • Fitness programs
  • Swimming and skating group lessons
  • Aquafit drop-ins
  • Group fitness drop-ins
  • Public swims and skates
  • Shinny and shoot around drop-ins
  • Sports drop-ins

Now open: registration for the free 65+ Annual Recreation Membership

Residents can visit any City of Brampton recreation centre to verify their eligibility. Individuals interested in signing up for a free 65+ Annual Recreation Membership must provide:

  • proof of being a Brampton resident, such as a driver’s licence or utility bill with a home address
  • proof of identity and age
  • proof of Canadian citizenship or being a permanent resident

This initiative is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to promote active living and healthy lifestyles among older adults. Last year, more than 7,000 residents enrolled in the free 70+ Annual Recreation Membership, and with the expansion of the membership to include those aged 65 and older, even more Brampton residents will have the opportunity to stay active, healthy and connected through accessible recreation.

The free 65+ Annual Recreation Membership is one of several actions the City is taking to enhance services for older adults, aligning with feedback received through the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
