Luminato Festival Returns to Brampton with Walk with Amal

The Luminato Festival is returning to Brampton on Friday, June 9 with the world-wide sensation, Walk with Amal. The awe-inspiring event is an extraordinary opportunity to participate in a global movement of hope and solidarity. Walk with Amal features a colossal 12-ft puppet representing a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, symbolizing the resilience and courage of displaced children around the world.

Residents and community groups will accompany Amal as she walks across the Greater Toronto Area, spreading a message of compassion and the universal quest for home.

“We are incredibly excited to bring Walk with Amal to Brampton,” says Michael Vickers, representative of the Brampton Arts Organization. He adds that “this unique event showcases the artistic brilliance of Luminato Festival and highlights the spirit of inclusivity and community engagement that Brampton embraces.”

The journey will start at 12PM on Friday June 9th from the Knightsbridge Kings Cross apartments located at 3 Knightsbridge Road. From there, we will traverse the streets of Brampton, making our way to the Bramalea Civic Centre. A community gathering and send-off await us at the destination, promising an unforgettable experience for all.

Since 2022, Amal has embarked on am odyssey covering over 9,000 kilometers across 13 countries and touching the hearts of more than a million people. The journey has transcending borders and cultural barriers.

Brampton Councillor Rowena Santos says that “Amal’s journey is a testament to the resilience and strength of displaced communities and Brampton is proud to be a part of this extraordinary project, fostering compassion and unity within our diverse community.”

We extend heartfelt gratitude to the organizers of the Luminato Festival, Brampton Arts Organization and community partners and artists, whose collaboration has made this event possible. Sharada Eswar & Jumblies Theatre, Brampton Multicultural Community Centre, Gather Round Singers, The Hive, Newcomer Bus, Brampton Library, and many more have joined forces to create a truly immersive and impactful experience for all participants.

Don’t miss this incredible chance to be part of something extraordinary. Walk with Amal and become part of Brampton’s journey to create a more inclusive and empathetic community.
