“Thank you Minister Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister and local MP, Kamal Khera, and all Brampton MPs for the $106 million commitment to Brampton Transit through the Canada Public Transit Fund’s Baseline Funding stream. Brampton is the 7th largest city in Canada with the highest growth in transit ridership in the country. This predictable source of funding will help us upgrade, replace, or modernize our public transit infrastructure, and maintain it in a state of good repair.
As an FCM Board Member and Chair of the Finance, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee, we have advocated for solutions like this which enable cities and communities to build public transit for the next generation.
Public transit is the backbone of livable, competitive and sustainable cities. Canada’s Public Transit Fund and our collaborative efforts at FCM is shaping groundbreaking federal investments to kick-start the next era of world-class public transit in Brampton and across Canada.
Brampton is grateful for this support.”

The City of Brampton has secured over $106 million in annual transit funding through the new Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF), ensuring long-term, predictable investments in its public transit infrastructure.
Announced today by the Honourable Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, this significant funding will help Brampton Transit upgrade, replace and modernize its infrastructure while maintaining a state of good repair.
The Canada Public Transit Fund is the largest public transit investment in Canadian history, addressing the needs of communities of all sizes, including large metropolitan areas, mid-size and smaller communities and rural, remote, northern and Indigenous communities. Through the CPTF’s Baseline Funding stream, Brampton will receive $106,239,450 over ten years, from 2026 to 2036. This investment will enhance the transit system, increase housing supply and affordability as part of complete, transit-oriented communities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while mitigating climate change impacts.
