The Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) Pilot Program, a two-year initiative for rental landlord registration and licensing, was approved during the March 29, 2023 Committee of Council meeting. Third Annual Brampton Summer Artist Market

A record 33 vendors and local arts organizations participated in Brampton’s Annual Summer Artist Market, including the first ever Youth Arts Market, showcasing the work of 11 young people. From handcrafted jewelry, ceramics, and book arts to original prints and paintings, the artist market offered a wonderful opportunity to support local artists and arts organizations.

City of Brampton unveils new Emancipation Day Memorial

The City of Brampton has unveiled a new memorial artwork, “Fah Who Dis? AstroBlack Joy,” in Emancipation Park to commemorate Emancipation Day, celebrated on August 1. This artwork features vibrant sculptures symbolizing the resilience and cultural heritage of Black-identifying Canadians and invites reflection on the ongoing fight against racism.

Congratulations to residents and organizations from Wards 1 & 5 who recently received recognition at the 2023 Brampton Citizen Awards and the 2024 Brampton Sports Hall of Fame. The Citizen of the Year Awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated all-round community involvement rather than specific activity or contribution.

At the FCM Annual Conference, Councillor Rowena Santos highlighted critical local issues on a national platform, advocating for measures to address harassment against officials, support survivors of violence, and combat food insecurity. With over 3,100 delegates gathered, discussions underscored the commitment to safeguard democracy and promote long-term support for marginalized groups, aiming to build safer and more equitable communities across Canada.
