Peel Regional Police launched the 2025 edition of Project E.R.A.S.E. (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere) to reducing illegal street racing and aggressive driving behaviours across the region.
This annual, multijurisdictional enforcement campaign focuses on high-visibility, strategic operations to address street racing, stunt driving and illegal car rallies across the Greater Toronto Area.
Since 2022, Peel Regional Police has recorded a 154 per cent increase in street racing-related charges, rising from just over 800 charges in 2022 to more than 2,100 in 2024. In the last two weeks, 32 vehicles have been seized and more than 400 charges have been laid, including 26 related to stunt driving. This data showcases the continued need for road safety efforts, and that street racing and stunt driving will not be tolerated.
Peel Regional Police also works closely with the City of Brampton to ensure bylaws are enforced, including fines up to $800 for participants and spectators at illegal car rallies. In addition, offenders are subject charges, vehicle impoundment, and driver’s licence suspension.
To help keep roads safe, members of the public are urged to report dangerous driving behaviours by contacting Road Safety Services at 905-453-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by filing an online report via Road Watch. Photo and video evidence of dangerous driving incidents can also be submitted through the following evidence submission portal.
Peel Regional Police is partnering with Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, and Hamilton Police Service on Project ERASE.
Councillor Santos is also launching an online tool to help identify hotspots based on resident feedback. A select group of neighbourhood associations will be invited to participate. Contact rowena.santos@brampton.ca for more information.
“Illegal street racing and dangerous driving are a serious threat to public safety. This initiative supports our ongoing Vision Zero efforts and reflects our shared commitment to making our streets safer for everyone. In addition to this initiative, I’m excited to launch a pilot of a new tool to help residents easily report issues related to reckless driving. Through education, enforcement, and community engagement, we will continue working toward a future with zero traffic-related injuries or fatalities.”– Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5, City of Brampton

In 2024, Councillor Santos worked with Peel Police and bylaw enforcement and brought forward a motion to increase fines and crack down on illegal car rallies.
Running from May through October, Project E.R.A.S.E. combines public education, community engagement, and strategic enforcement to address high-risk driving activities that continue to threaten the safety of road users in the Region of Peel.
In May 1 to October 1, 2024, Peel Regional Police targeted known hotspot areas across the region, resulting in the investigation of 1,119 vehicles and the issuance of 2,127 Provincial Offence Notices, including:
- 155 Stunt Driving Charges
- 282 Noisemaker Violations
- 27 Criminal Code Charges (related to impaired and dangerous driving)
