Peel Manor’s Seniors Health and Wellness Village Opens for Long-Term Care, Day Services, and Community Support

Peel Region is proud to announce that residents of the Peel Manor Long Term Care Centre on Main Street North in Brampton will move into their new home today at the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor, and Peel Manor Adult Day Services client operations will launch from the new centre beginning Thursday, November 7.

“The opening of the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor marks a transformative milestone in the way we support seniors and caregivers across Brampton and Peel Region. By combining innovative, emotion-based care with integrated community services, we’re creating a truly inclusive environment where seniors can thrive with dignity and independence. We’re proud to lead in reshaping senior care to meet the evolving needs of our growing community.”

– Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5, Vice Chair, Seniors Services Committee

Honoured as Advantage Ontario’s 2024 Innovation and Excellence Capital Project Award, the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor includes both an exceptional Long Term Care Centre and a service hub designed to support the needs of seniors and their caregivers living in the broader community. It is built on the site of the original Peel Manor, which evolved from the County of Peel House of Industry and Refuge that originally housed 12 people and was built in 1898.

The 177-bed Long Term Care Centre includes a Transitional Behavioural Support Unit which provides specialized dementia support in a safe and secure environment to meet the needs of individuals with advanced dementia who experience complex behaviours. This specialized unit has been designed with a focus on emotion-based strategies to care. Peel Region was the first in Ontario to adopt this approach, also known as the Butterfly Model, which creates a home-like environment where staff are empowered to engage residents in meaningful, person-centred ways by focusing on the individual needs, experiences, interests, hobbies, and stories that have shaped their lives.

Service hub offering integrated care for seniors

The Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor will also feature a service hub, including Adult Day Services with an integrated care centre that includes seniors-focused primary care, sub-specialty geriatric care, dental services, other inter-disciplinary care providers, an overnight respite care centre, and a variety of community-facing services and spaces, such as a social enterprise operated café and shop, resource centre, hair salon, meeting spaces, and outdoor green spaces.

In fact, the new facility will more than double the existing capacity to provide Adult Day Services at Peel Manor, which helps seniors maintain mobility, strength, and cognition, while reducing social isolation. Adult Day Services also provide caregivers with much-needed respite and connect them with education and other services that support them in their caregiving roles. The 8-bed overnight respite care centre will allow caregivers to take a break and recharge with the peace of mind that their loved ones are being cared for by skilled staff.

Note that access to Adult Day Services, Respite Care, Dental Services, and the Integrated Care Centre are based on eligibility requirements. To learn more, contact the team.

Seniors are the fastest-growing age group in Peel, with one in five residents in Peel expected to be over the age of 65 by 2041. A report released by Home Care Ontario in 2024 forecasts that Ontario’s population of seniors will grow by 650,000 or 23% in the next six years.
