‘Stubborn’ Premier Ford must show ‘compassion’ and reverse speed camera ban in Brampton, councillor says
Brampton Councillor Rowena Santos is calling on Premier Doug Ford to scrap his plan to ban automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras, arguing the program has reduced speeding and improved safety in the city. Brampton recently installed more than 100 cameras, built a ticket processing facility, and invested nearly $6 million in expanding the program, which was expected to generate $30 million annually. Santos says dismantling the system would undermine public safety and waste taxpayer money, urging the province to strengthen fairness and accountability rather than eliminate ASE. Mayor Patrick Brown said Brampton will comply with provincial legislation if the ban passes but is seeking repayment for the city’s expenses.
