Over 20 homeless encampments in Brampton as city struggles to recoup over $1M in clean-up costs

Brampton spent over $1.15 million removing encampments last year, but a provincial funding application through Peel Region was denied. Councillor Rowena Santos raised safety concerns that led to the evictions of around 50 individuals from Calvert Park and Etobicoke Creek. Mayor Patrick Brown is urging Peel Council to pass a motion supporting direct city access to provincial reimbursement. With 23 encampments still on city land, Brampton is calling for more local control over encampment responses and trespass enforcement.
