Higher fines await those who leave garbage on their Brampton properties

Brampton is proposing tougher penalties for residents who repeatedly leave garbage and debris on their properties, with fines climbing to $750 for persistent violations. In 2024, the city received over 5,500 complaints under its refuse bylaw and issued 777 penalty notices. Fines will also increase for improperly stored garbage bins, particularly those placed in front-facing yards. Officials say the changes are necessary to enforce community standards and promote cleaner, safer neighbourhoods.
