Here’s how Brampton plans to keep abandoned shopping carts out of its creeks and other public spaces
Brampton Councillor Rowena Santos raised concerns about the growing problem of abandoned shopping carts in city parks, creeks, and valleys, after hearing complaints from residents. City staff said between 400 and 500 carts are collected annually, but current bylaws only partially address the issue. A new bylaw is being developed that would introduce storage fees and fines charged to retailers to encourage better cart management. Residents can continue to report abandoned carts through 3-1-1 for removal.
