City of Brampton takes bold action to combat exploitation and trafficking of international students

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown and Community Services Chair Rowena Santos presented a resolution aimed at addressing the exploitation and trafficking of international students, focusing on local protections and federal support. Recognizing the vulnerabilities faced by many students, especially female students who experience exploitation in housing, the city plans to enhance its Residential Rental Licensing program and collaborate on culturally tailored support programs. Brampton also urges legislative changes to visa restrictions that expose students to unsafe employment. The city advocates for its International Students Charter to guide institutions in providing critical support to protect students’ safety and rights.
