Brampton, Whitby Councillors want Canadian, U.S. mayors to be ‘peacekeepers’ in Trump trade war

Ontario Councillors Rowena Santos and Chris Leahy call for mayors to act as “peacekeepers” in the Canada-U.S. trade war. They propose a city-to-city alliance to counter tariffs and economic harm caused by Trump’s policies. The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) has already passed a resolution opposing the trade war, which Santos and Leahy see as an opportunity for collaboration. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, who recently met with U.S. mayors in Washington, supports strengthening cross-border municipal cooperation. Brown emphasizes the growing unity between Canadian and American mayors to push back against harmful trade policies.
