Brampton to announce new steps to fight ‘exploitation and trafficking’ of international students

The City of Brampton is set to unveil new measures aimed at addressing the exploitation and trafficking of international students during a press conference on Wednesday. Mayor Patrick Brown and Regional Coun. Rowena Santos will discuss actions the city and community are advocating for in response to unethical landlord practices. Santos highlighted that international students often face severe housing shortages and are being exploited, with some landlords advertising overcrowded and unsafe accommodations. In response, Brampton has introduced a residential rental licensing program to enhance accountability and ensure safety standards are met.
