Brampton Councillor says speeding has increased since speed camera ticketing stopped

After Ontario halted speed-camera ticketing, Brampton saw speeding incidents jump from 31,581 to 71,258 in one week, according to data shared by Councillor Rowena Santos.
Santos says the spike proves cameras were effective and warns that school zones are now exposed with no active traffic-calming measures in place.
Municipalities are exploring using inactive cameras for data collection, but the province’s replacement—massive school-zone signs—has sparked concerns about blind spots and insufficient supply.
Premier Doug Ford has dismissed size concerns, while cities like Toronto and Brampton say the signs are impractical and do little to deter speeding.
