Brampton calls for government support to help combat exploitation of international students

Brampton leaders, along with Peel police and social services, highlighted the urgent need for protections against the exploitation of international students in the city, where disturbing rental ads are demanding sexual favors for housing. Mayor Patrick Brown and Councillor Rowena Santos outlined measures like the Residential Rental Licensing program to address illegal housing practices and prevent human trafficking. The city also plans culturally sensitive pilot programs for support, calling on provincial and federal governments to amend visa regulations and support services. Brampton’s International Students Charter seeks collaboration across government and institutions to ensure student safety and rights.
