Starting June 1, seniors aged 70 and above in Brampton can get a free annual pass for all city recreational centres, which typically cost over $200. Eligibility requires proof of Brampton address, ID, and Canadian citizenship or permanent residency. This initiative aims to promote physical and mental health, combat social isolation, and relieve pressure on the healthcare system. Brampton is investing nearly $1 million this year, with plans to extend the program to seniors aged 65 and above next year, at an additional cost of $600,000. This move is applauded by residents like Durlabh Gill and Savita Ramesh Shivani, who emphasize the importance of exercise and socialization for seniors’ well-being. The free membership will be renewable annually.
