The City Council recently sanctioned a significant move: granting complimentary Annual Recreation Memberships to eligible seniors aged 70 and above, effective June 1, 2024.
With over 58,000 residents falling into this age bracket, the City of Brampton acknowledges the profound link between physical activity and overall well-being. Beginning June 1, 2024, seniors who have confirmed their eligibility and enrolled for the 70+ Annual Recreation Membership will gain access to drop-in programs, promoting not only physical health but also mental and emotional wellness.
On June 10, holders of the membership can register for summer programs covered by their membership, with no additional charges. These programs are scheduled to commence in July 2024.
Previously, the city provided free Swim and Skate Memberships, as well as Walking Track Memberships, to residents aged 70 and older. Now, with the introduction of the free membership, local seniors can indulge in an expanded array of amenities and programs, including Fitness Centre Membership, Racquet Membership, and various drop-in activities such as swimming, skating, and fitness programs.
Councillor Santos adds that “Seniors have played a vital role in shaping our community and deserve to continue to lead healthy and active lives and age with dignity. This new free 70+ Annual Recreation Membership reflects our commitment to creating an age-friendly and accessible community. By eliminating financial obstacles, we proudly support our seniors in maintaining their well-being with free, local recreational activities.”
The city remains unwavering in its commitment to fostering healthy and active lifestyles among its residents through its diverse recreation offerings. To explore the details of the new complimentary Annual Recreation Membership and to confirm eligibility, visit brampton.ca/memberships.
