I am thrilled that Downtown Brampton is about to undergo the transformation we have all been waiting for. After years of planning, advocacy, and perseverance, the revitalization of our downtown is now moving full steam ahead.
Downtown is the heart of our city, a place where families gather, small businesses thrive, and our culture comes alive. While it has served us well in the past, it has grown, tired and dated, lacking the energy our community deserves. That is about to change. I have made it my mission to ensure this revitalization happens, and now it is about to become a reality.
Council has approved major steps forward on three important projects. Main Street between Wellington and Queen will be completely transformed, with granite paving replacing asphalt to create a distinctive, signature corridor. The Four Corners at Main and Queen, along with four other intersections, will be redesigned with granite patterns that create beautiful gateways into the core. This additional $5.99 million investment is not just about looks, it is about safety, durability, and building a downtown that people want to visit and enjoy.
Ken Whillans Square is also getting a major upgrade, with over $8 million dedicated to early construction work. By late 2026, it will become a vibrant, accessible space that connects seamlessly with Main Street and the rest of downtown. At the same time, Garden Square will expand into a new public space with trees, seating, and opportunities for pop-up shops and community activities. Construction begins later this year and will be complete by mid-2026, so you will start to see changes very soon.
For me, these projects are about more than the physical structures, they are about building a meaningful legacy. They are about bringing new life to our downtown: safer sidewalks, more welcoming public spaces, exciting opportunities for events and festivals, and stronger support for the businesses that make our community unique. They are about creating a downtown we can all be proud of, one that matches Brampton’s incredible spirit.
I am proud to have led the charge on this revitalization, pushing for funding, championing high-quality design, and ensuring your voices have been part of the process every step of the way.
We have waited patiently for this moment, and now you will begin to see visible, meaningful transformation take place in the core of our city.
Together, we are building something amazing, a vibrant downtown we can all be proud of, and a Brampton we truly deserve.
