Councillor Santos hosted a Crime Prevention and Community Safety workshop with Peel Police, Brampton Fire, Community Safety Office, Bylaw Enforcement and City Security. 135 residents registered and actively participated in sessions including Crime Mapping, Petty Theft and Porch Piracy, Break and Enter, Auto Theft, Fraud, Road Safety, Crime Reporting and Fire Prevention. Residents were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the information shared as indicated by a Net Promoter Score of over 90% for each session.
The workshop addressed concerns regarding neighbourhood safety which continues to be a top concern across the country and locally in Brampton. The workshop was developed as an accelerated version of the 5 week, 3 hour per week Crime Prevention Academy program offered by Peel Regional Police.
Historic investments including the hiring of 300 new officers in this year’s approved Police Budget have been made and reinforced with a local Wards 1&5 text survey:

In addition to support for police, Santos wanted to provide residents with access to crime prevention and safety tips, including fire prevention. Residents and neighbourhoods have an important role in helping to reduce the opportunity for crime while also enhancing personal safety. A majority of residents surveyed wanted access to such safety information.
The survey also asked residents to rank their top issues of concern:

Residents who participated were actively engaged with good questions for each topic. They shared personal experiences and ideas to improve personal and community safety.
Special thanks to Constable Ariel Reyes, Sgt. Andrew Wernert, Deputy Fire Chief Chantelle Cosgrove, Razmin Said and Anjan Sohi, Rob Higgs, city security and city staff for helping to organize this important event.
The workshop was video recorded and will be available as an online mini-course to be launched in the Spring. Pre-register below to get free access when the course is available:
