Peel Police Team Makes Record Seizure of Guns and Gangs in 2024

Peel Regional Police seized more than double the illegal firearms this year compared to 2023 thanks to their STEP program. This program focuses on removing guns from streets and reducing gang violence. In total, Peel police seized 205 illegal guns in 2024, with STEP seizing 53 of them. The government is committed to supporting such initiatives to enhance public safety.

Update on Project E.R.A.S.E

Peel Regional Police ran Project E.R.A.S.E. to combat dangerous driving and street racing. The program used education, enforcement, and social awareness to improve road safety. They investigated over 1,100 vehicles and issued charges for speeding, noise violations, and impaired driving.

Brampton Welcomes Provincial Support for Encampments and Public Safety

Brampton’s proactive measures, including its Encampment Protocol, address homelessness and addiction through coordinated cleanup efforts, enhanced security, and advocacy for compassionate interventions like involuntary treatment as a last resort. The City of Brampton welcomes Ontario’s new Safer Municipalities Act, 2024, which strengthens enforcement and allocates $75.5 million for shelter expansion and affordable housing.

Regional Councillor Rowena Santos has been advocating for months to address encampments and their impact on Brampton residents, particularly along the Etobicoke Creek Trail. Premier Doug Ford’s recent response pledges new measures to support municipalities, including investments in mental health, addiction recovery, and homelessness prevention, along with enhanced legislative tools to manage encampments.

The fifth Break the Silence campaign continues to raise awareness and encourage action against gender-based violence, urging everyone to recognize the signs of abuse and support victims.

Improvements to By-law Enforcement
