City of Brampton strengthens commitment to safer rental housing

Brampton is enhancing rental housing safety by waiving the Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) application fee for 2025, encouraging compliance and protecting tenants. The city has licensed 3,227 units and expanded enforcement efforts by hiring 38 additional by-law officers to improve property standards and safety. A new program will soon provide smoke alarms to RRL applicants, reinforcing fire safety in rental homes.

Santos survey supports public safety investment, 300 new Peel Police Officers in 2025

Brampton residents identified public safety as their top concern in Councillor Rowena Santos’ surveys, supporting increased investment. The 2025 Regional Council budget approved hiring 300 new police officers to address crime, intimate partner violence, and road safety. Santos continues to advocate for stronger provincial and federal action, including reforms to driver examination processes.

Crime Prevention Workshop and Community Safety Townhall

Councillor Santos will be hosting a crime prevention workshop at City Hall, to help residents keep themselves, their families and their property safe. This free workshop is a shortened version of the Crime Prevention Academy offered by Peel Police and will provide participants with the basics of crime prevention, vehicle safety, home security, personal safety and fraud prevention.

Peel Police Team Makes Record Seizure of Guns and Gangs in 2024

Peel Regional Police seized more than double the illegal firearms this year compared to 2023 thanks to their STEP program. This program focuses on removing guns from streets and reducing gang violence. In total, Peel police seized 205 illegal guns in 2024, with STEP seizing 53 of them. The government is committed to supporting such initiatives to enhance public safety.

Update on Project E.R.A.S.E

Peel Regional Police ran Project E.R.A.S.E. to combat dangerous driving and street racing. The program used education, enforcement, and social awareness to improve road safety. They investigated over 1,100 vehicles and issued charges for speeding, noise violations, and impaired driving.
