Significant infrastructure investments are underway across Wards 1 and 5 to modernize roads, improve traffic flow, and strengthen long-term resilience. Projects on Williams Parkway, Chinguacousy Road, and key local streets are advancing through design and construction, with a clear focus on safety, transit access, and community connectivity. While some timelines have been impacted by utility coordination and weather, the City is actively working to keep projects moving and minimize disruptions.
What’s Happening Across Wards 1 & 5
Williams Parkway Reconstruction
Work continues on one of the City’s largest road projects. Phase I is progressing with major infrastructure already in place and on track for completion in Fall 2026. Phase II is nearing final design, with construction planned to begin in 2027 pending approval.
Denison Avenue Extension
A new connection between Mill Street and Park Street is in advanced design. This project will improve local access with new roadways, sidewalks, and stormwater infrastructure.
Chinguacousy Road Improvements
Transit and streetscape upgrades are nearing completion, including new bus shelters, improved intersections, and pedestrian infrastructure.
Road Resurfacing Projects
Multiple streets are being resurfaced to improve driving conditions and extend road life, with ongoing work continuing into Summer 2026 and additional projects starting this spring.
Right-of-Way Maintenance
City-wide improvements to sidewalks, curbs, and transit pads will continue throughout 2026 to enhance accessibility and safety.
The City remains focused on delivering critical infrastructure while managing delays caused by external factors. Efforts are underway to improve coordination, adjust construction staging, and explore options to accelerate progress where possible.
