Brampton celebrates June is Recreation and Parks Month 2025 with events, expanded programming and capital projects

The City of Brampton is proudly marking June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM) in partnership with Parks and Recreation Ontario and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association. This year’s theme, Community Thrives Here, highlights how parks and recreation bring people together, support healthy living, and foster inclusive, vibrant communities.

“Recreation is about more than staying active, it is about connection, community and care. Whether it is a child discovering a new passion, a newcomer finding belonging or an older adult staying engaged, these moments matter. Through our continued investments in inclusive programs and welcoming spaces, we are building a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, physically, socially and emotionally.”

– Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 & 5; Chair, Community Services Section, City of Brampton

Supporting a Thriving Community through Parks and Recreation in Brampton

Guided by the Parks and Recreation Master Plan (PRMP), a long-term roadmap guiding the delivery of parks, facilities, programs, and services through 2036, the City is making strategic investments to foster healthy and active lifestyles. This includes a five per cent increase in recreation programming in 2025, with a goal of welcoming 8,000 more participants to Brampton’s programs and facilities this year.

Brampton also continues to lead in accessibility and inclusion, as the first city in Canada to offer free annual recreation memberships for residents aged 65 and older—a program supporting older adults in staying active, engaged, and connected to their community.

Adding to available community and recreation spaces, the City recently reopened the Balmoral Recreation Centre following a major revitalization and expansion project—representing a $25 million investment into enhanced services and accessible infrastructure. Additional capital projects underway include the Earnscliffe Park Cricket Facility, Century Gardens Youth Hub, and the Howden Recreation Centre and Library Branch. New parks and splash pads are also opening across Brampton in 2025, expanding access to high-quality outdoor spaces and recreational amenities city-wide.

Brampton offers more than 4,000 acres of parkland, 425 parks, 600 kilometres of trails, and state-of-the-art community centres that provide inclusive, year-round programming for residents of all ages and abilities. For more information on how to participate in JRPM, visit brampton.ca/recmonth.
