Only 1 Brampton Councillor opposed removing bikes lane on major corridor, here’s why

Brampton Council voted overwhelmingly to remove the Howden Boulevard bike lanes and barriers, reverting the road to four car lanes. Councillor Rowena Santos cast the lone dissenting vote, arguing the removal compromises safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Data showed speeding dropped significantly after bike lanes and automated enforcement were introduced. Despite resident complaints about restricted turns, Santos proposed keeping bike lanes while removing only barriers and fixing intersections. Removing the lanes will cost $337,000, and council earmarked funds for future relocation and a potential multi‑use path.
