Regional Councillor Brampton Wards 1 & 5

Brampton extends controversial rental licensing program for 3 more years, and expands it

Brampton has extended the Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) program until December 31, 2028, with annual reviews to guide improvements. The program now covers Wards 2 and 8, requiring landlords in seven wards to register units and undergo safety inspections. New additions include landlord certification, integration with ARU registration, and tougher penalties for non-compliance. Despite ongoing protests from the Brampton Housing Providers Association, the City reports over 3,600 landlords registered and strong public support.
