This Earth Month, the City of Brampton is launching its “Imagine your Impact” campaign, inviting residents to make a positive difference in the community. Through a series of free, family-friendly initiatives, residents can come together to take action and help make a lasting impact on our community and planet.

Litter harms wildlife and clogs waterways. It also takes away from the natural beauty and enjoyment of local parks and trails. Simple actions, such as picking up after your pet, placing garbage in the designated bin or respecting park rules may seem small on their own, but when multiplied across a city of nearly 800,000 people, the collective impact is transformative.

Brampton named 2024 Tree City of the World
The City is celebrating its achievement of a prestigious international recognition as a 2024 Tree City of the World by the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This designation honours Brampton’s sustainable urban forest management initiative and recognizes the City’s commitment to building a greener, healthier and more resilient future. This recognition supports Brampton’s ongoing initiatives, including the One Million Trees Program, aiming to plant one million trees by 2040, and the Urban Forest Management Plan.
Ways to participate and resources for Earth Month 2025
NEW – Brampton Schools Cleanup Challenge
This April, Brampton schools are invited to take part in the School Cleanup Challenge as part of Earth Month celebrations. This initiative encourages students, teachers and staff to come together and take action by cleaning up their school grounds and surrounding areas. By organizing a cleanup led by a class, club or school-wide, participants are automatically entered into a draw for a chance to win a $1,000 gift card to the Outdoor Learning Store. Brampton’s Parks Cleanup Program
Generously sponsored by Capital Power, CN and TD, the Parks Cleanup Program helps keep Brampton clean. Each year, from April 1 to November 1, residents, community organizations, neighbourhood associations, businesses and school groups are encouraged to host or join a cleanup event. Last year, approximately 30,000 residents participated in cleanup initiatives, including five community cleanup events and approximately 1,836 self-led cleanups. This year, the City is hosting five cleanups in partnership with several organizations in each ward pairing:

Sign the Litter Reduction Charter and take part in a litter cleanup competition
Brampton is working to become Canada’s first litter-free city, and everyone has a role to play. Residents, schools and businesses are encouraged to sign the Litter Reduction Charter and commit to keeping our city clean. To date, 50 signatories, including Brampton City Council, local businesses, community organizations, volunteer groups, neighbourhood associations, faith organizations, education institutions, individuals and the Litter Reduction Working Group have signed the charter.
Use Brampton’s Ready, Set, Collect tool to challenge friends and neighbours by tracking clean-up efforts. Through this tool, residents can share their results to encourage other residents to undertake their own cleanup efforts and help make Brampton litter-free. Launched in 2024, the City received 69 submissions of litter cleanup efforts, resulting in 238 bags of litter removed from streets, parks and neighbourhoods.

Join Brampton’s Community Tree Planting Event
Sponsored by Toronto Pearson and CN, the City of Brampton is hosting a community tree planting event this Earth Month to support its goal of planting one million trees by 2040. Residents are invited to bring their friends and family to roll up their sleeves and contribute to a greener, healthier Brampton, one tree at a time. Registration is open and required to participate in this free event. Spaces are limited, visit brampton.ca/trees to sign up and give back to the community and the environment.

Plant a tree to contribute to Brampton’s One Million Trees pledge
Residents who plan to plant a tree or who have recently planted trees in their yards are encouraged to report it to help Brampton reach its goal of planting one million trees by 2040. As part of this commitment, the City launched an interactive Tree Planting Tracker Map to monitor and showcase progress. Check out the map to see where trees have been planted across the city since 2020 and add your own at brampton.ca/trees.
Preserve Brampton’s Urban Forest – Obtain a Permit Before You Cut
The City of Brampton strives to maintain a healthy urban forest through the implementation of the City of Brampton Forest Management Plan. The guiding principles and actions help the City achieve its vision of a healthy and sustainable urban forest. To protect it, tree removals are regulated through the City’s Tree Preservation By-law and the Woodlot Conservation By-law. Property owners must apply for a permit before removing any woodlots or privately owned trees. Residents can apply for a permit online, in person, or by mail. Click here for more information.
Brampton’s Commitment to Keeping Parks and Community Spaces Clean and Litter-Free
The City of Brampton boasts more than 850 parks and is committed to maintaining clean and welcoming spaces for everyone to enjoy. City staff work year-round to support this goal through a number of proactive efforts, including more frequent patrols to ensure waste bins are emptied regularly and kept in good condition. Additional signage has been installed in parks to encourage users to dispose of their waste properly and help reduce litter. To further support these efforts, by-law enforcement officers have increased proactive patrols across the city to uphold local by-laws and prevent illegal dumping. These ongoing initiatives are part of Brampton’s broader commitment to creating a greener, cleaner and more vibrant community.
