We need to ensure drivers are adequately trained and licensed before they are allowed on our roads.
Brampton has made historic investments in speed bumps, automated speed enforcement cameras, road diets, and other traffic calming measures. However, it is the Province of Ontario that issues driver’s licenses. The provincial government is responsible for restricting the privilege of driving to those who demonstrate that they have the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to drive safely. My Safer Drivers = Safer Roads motion was adopted by Brampton City Council and calls on the province to take the following actions to make our roads safer:
- Implement stricter oversight and regulation of driver training schools and instructors
- Enforce higher testing standards to ensure drivers are equipped to handle real-world road scenarios
- Eliminate fraudulent practices in the driver licensing system
- Provide updates on the measures being taken to improve road safety and driver training
