Brampton has launched its Litter Reduction Charter, marking a major step in the city’s efforts to become the first litter-free city in Canada. Led and supported by the Community Safety and Well-being Office, and Councillor Santos, the Charter unites stakeholders from the City, Region of Peel, business community, Sheridan College, neighbourhood associations, and grassroots organizations.
This Charter is more than a document – it’s a pledge for collective action. It outlines a comprehensive plan for litter prevention, reduction, and response strategies, aimed at fostering pride and responsibility in every community.
The Charter’s creation is a milestone, providing a clear framework to address litter not only as an environmental issue but as part of the broader Brampton Community Safety Action Plan and the Grow Green Environmental Master Plan. Cleaner streets mean safer streets, enhancing quality of life for all residents.
Event attendees were invited to explore booths showcasing local litter reduction efforts and were encouraged to become signatories. The Charter is available online, and every resident and business is urged to support this initiative.
Brampton’s Council sees this as the beginning of a movement that will inspire ongoing community engagement and action. The city is committed to building a cleaner, safer, and more connected future for everyone.
