Brampton Council Eyes Rental Occupancy Limits after Mayor’s Update on Landlord Licensing Program

Brampton council will soon consider a motion from Councillor Rowena Santos to impose occupancy limits in rental properties, addressing overcrowding and illegal rooming houses. The proposal aims to enhance the city’s Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) program by ensuring units comply with fire and building codes, and preventing excessive subletting. Mayor Patrick Brown highlighted the RRL’s progress, with over 2,200 licenses issued and 4,700 inspections conducted. The motion is part of a broader effort to improve rental safety and enforce property standards in high-violation areas.
