Congratulations to residents and organizations from Wards 1 & 5 who recently received recognition at the 2023 Brampton Citizen Awards and the 2024 Brampton Sports Hall of Fame.
The Citizen of the Year Awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated all-round community involvement rather than specific activity or contribution. This award recognizes local residents who build communities and show what can be achieved with passion and determination. The Citizen of the Year Award is presented to a youth, adult and senior citizen. Gian Paul was recognized as Citizen of the Year – Senior.
The Sports Achievement Award recognizes Brampton residents whose achievements have been recognized at the provincial, national or international level. This year’s recipients have made achievements in track and field, basketball, swimming, baton twirling and karate. The include:

The Arts Acclaim Award recognizes individuals whose contributions have had a significant impact in terms of achieving local, provincial, national or international acclaim. Cameron Grant was awarded the Arts Acclaim Award.
The Arts Acclaim Award recognizes individuals whose contributions have had a significant impact in terms of achieving local, provincial, national or international acclaim. Rev. Dr. James Luke was was award with the Inspirational Award.
To commemorative Brampton’s 50th Birthday, a special award category was launched to celebrate those who have contributed to the Brampton Community for the past 50 years: Celebrating Brampton’s 50th. This special category gives recognition to those individuals who have contributed to community social services, the development of recreational sports, the arts, and/or economic development. The following residents and organization were awarded:

Since establishing the Sports Hall of Fame in 1979, the City of Brampton has recognized outstanding athletic achievements and contributions to the development of sport in the community. With a focus on honouring both past and present Brampton residents, the City’s Sports Hall of Fame annually inducts individuals in the categories of Athletes, Builders, Veterans and Teams, with the public actively encouraged to submit nominations. This year, Faraz Saleem (Builder / Cricket) was inducted. Faraz is a cricketing stalwart with over 23 years of dedicated service. He founded the Brampton Cricket League and spearheaded innovative initiatives such as automated live game scoring and permanent lights. As the president of the league, he continues to drive the growth of cricket in Brampton. Off the field, Faraz is a community advocate, supporting various initiatives and addressing social issues, leaving a lasting impact on both sport and society.
