Housing summit targets gaps driving gender-based violence crisis

Peel Region is facing a crisis, with police responding to nearly two IPV incidents per hour, highlighting the scale of Gender-Based Violence. Rowena Santos is leading the Break the Cycle Summit alongside Toronto Metropolitan University to develop a coordinated housing strategy for survivors. The summit will map the full housing continuum—from emergency shelters to long-term housing—to identify systemic gaps. Frontline leaders, including Rebecca Pacheco from Embrave: Agency to End Violence, stress that without housing solutions, survivors remain trapped in abusive situations.
