Regional Councillor Brampton Wards 1 & 5

Artifact donations could be on hold amid Brampton’s possible takeover of local museum

A motion by Brampton Coun. Rowena Santos and Mississauga Coun. Stephen Dasko calls for freezing the Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives’ 2026 marketing budget and pausing new artifact and artwork donations amid uncertainty about its future governance. The move follows data showing 80 percent of PAMA’s users are Brampton residents, despite Mississauga contributing the largest share of funding. Councillors argue accepting new donations without clarity on ownership and control would complicate a potential transition. If approved, Brampton would lead operations while ownership of the building and collections remains shared among Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon.
